Body cavities. Ventral (anterior) cavities are in the front of the body (blue). Dorsal (posterior) cavities are in the back (red).

Khoang cơ thể. Khoang bụng (ventral/anterior) nằm ở phía trước cơ thể (màu xanh). Khoang lưng (dosal/posterior) nằm ở phía sau (màu đỏ).

Abdominal (peritoneal) cavity (side view and in light blue). Notice the peritoneum, which is a membrane surrounding the organs in the abdominal cavity. If there is disease of the abdominal organs, fluid may accumulate in the peritoneal cavity. This fluid is called ascites. The retroperitoneal area is behind the peritoneum. The kidneys are in the retroperitoneal area.

Khoang bụng (phúc mạc) (nhìn từ bên và màu xanh nhạt). Lưu ý phúc mạc, là màng bao quanh các cơ quan trong khoang bụng. Nếu có bệnh ở các cơ quan bụng, dịch có thể tích tụ trong khoang phúc mạc. Dịch này được gọi là cổ trướng (hoặc báng bụng). Vùng sau phúc mạc nằm sau phúc mạc. Thận nằm ở khu vực sau phúc mạc.
